5 best Chinese App Alternatives

In the recent years many of the apps available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store has overtaken by the Chinese apps. Many experts claim that these Chinese Apps are collecting user data and personal information. There are a lot of such instances where the data is collected and sent to the Chinese servers. So here I have a list of apps which you should use instead of the Chinese apps.

  1. Google Chrome – UC browser alternative

UC Browser is owned by the Alibaba group of China. It is widely used across India and China. UC Browser has a lot of privacy and security issues. A report stated that some personally identifiable information was being sent to the Chinese servers without encryption. It came under the government’s scanner for alleged data theft in 2017. It was also removed from the Google Play Store in 2017 for some misleading promotions. So, if you want to use internet without anyone monitoring your activity online you must consider moving to a more secure and reliable web browser Google Chrome.

Google takes security seriously and provides regular updates to protect from harmful websites and malware.

  1. Files by Google – Alternative to Shareit and Xender

Shareit is also a Chinese company which was founded in April 2015. Shareit was first used for transferring files and apps and now it has moved from its main goal and also can be used as a music player, video player as well as for chatting. I also found some inappropriate content on this app and some cringe ads shown up. Shareit was also found with security vulnerabilities where it allowed attackers to download content from user’s device.

Files by Google can transfer files seamlessly and without any ads or any cringe content shown. It is also a great app to use as a file manager.

  1. Adobe Scan – CamScanner alternative

CamScanner is also a popular app used for scanning documents. It is owned by the Chinese company INTSIG. Last year CamScanner was removed from the Play Store after Kaspersky found a Trojan Horse module inside the CamScanner app. Later on, the code was removed and the app was back on the Play Store. Adobe Scan on the other hand is a great alternative and has some good features as well. You can also go with Microsoft Lens as an alternative.

  1. KineMaster – Viva Video Alternative

VivaVideo is a popular app to edit videos on your mobile device, but this app doesn’t value your privacy. VivaVideo asks a lot of permissions to run which a video editor should not ask for. Indian government had also blocked this app in 2017 for spying on users. If you are looking for an alternative you can use KineMaster. It features precise editing tools for video, audio, text, color filter, stickers and more.

  1. WhatsApp/Hike – WeChat alternative

WeChat is an application which is widely used in China, it has its server’s setup in China, over the years it has become a all in one app in itself allowing you to chat, make calls, shop. The Chinese government heavily monitors messages on WeChat. Also, the documents sent from WeChat are surveyed by the Chinese. A good alternative for WeChat is WhatsApp, where you can chat to anyone who is using the app with end to end encryption. If you are bored using WhatsApp then you can use Hike which was developed in India. It also offers 128-bit SSL encryption. It also has great features such as Stickers and much more.
